Busy CEOs and financial reporting quality: evidence from Indonesia

Purpose This study aims to examine the relationship between CEO busyness and financial reporting quality in a country which implements two-tier board system. Design/methodology/approach includes firms listed on Indonesian Stock Exchange during 2010–2018 period. employs an ordinary least squares regression, propensity score matching procedure, Heckman two-stage regression testing hypothesis. Findings finds that with busy directors have higher quality, these results are robust battery or sensitivity analysis. The additional analyses also find is negatively associated firm's decreasing income. Practical implications paper provides for policy-makers emerging market devising policies CEOs' appointments, especially when involving multiple directorships. Despite general belief detrimental workload effects of directors, this offers evidence supporting opposite effect. Originality/value As many previous studies focused effect director firm’s performance, focusses quality. To best our knowledge, first investigate issue market.
